Basile3

Having worked with Oklou, 13Block, Deena Abdelwahed and many more, Basile3 has lended his vision on multiple projects over the course of his career. Both singular and profound, the musical vision that Basile3 has developed over the past ten years is emblematic of a generation of artists for whom hybridity is the guiding principle. The French producer draws inspiration from a wide range of influences, including, among others, the broken rhythms of British post-dubstep, the dark melodies of Southern U.S. rap, the pulses of Miami bass, and the sentimentality of RnB. This eclecticism is due in part to the years he spent as part of collectives like Gang Fatale, which brings together members from the United States, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.

During his creative process, Basile3 first absorbs and refines all these diverse influences before filtering them through the lens of ambient music. The abstract shapes of his soundscapes form the very architecture of his tracks, which are built on hypnotic, ever-evolving synthesizer loops. This sensitive fusion of contemporary, electronic, and avant-garde elements perhaps draws, in its approach, from a key figure in Basile3’s musical universe: Ryuichi Sakamoto. Regular listeners who follow the producer on webradios might have already detected the early signs of this project in Glitch and Chill, a tribute episode to the Japanese composer published on LYL Radio.

Basile3’s first full-length album 43°C, is an enigmatic title that represents both a measure of happiness (4+3=7, the producer’s lucky number!) and a world that has become unstable. The artist is known for immersing us in richly imagined sound worlds, shaped as much by his rigorous visual collaborations as by the quasi-cinematic imagination that drives each of his projects. 43°C is no exception.
