For the second single of their upcoming EP “More heat to the fire part of fire” UTO shares their reinterpretation of Dido’s White Flag
On March 7th, 2025, UTO will follow up their genre bending album When All You Want To Do Is Be The Fire Part Of Fire with More heat to the fire part of fire, a five track companion EP that further expands the sounds explored on the former.
The second single of the EP sees Emile and Nessa paying homage to their teenage years. “White Flag” was on MTV when we were teenagers, so it made sense to cover this song for our first TV appearance. We wanted to pay homage to this 90’s Brit pop scene which had a big impact on us.” the duo explains.
The decision to cover “White Flag” felt natural, especially considering its original arrangement, which prominently featured majestic, iconic violins. However, in their version, they deliberately chose not to make direct reference to these violins, despite their presence throughout the album. In this reinterpretation, the violins emerge as spectral figures, almost ghostly, crafting a subtle, invisible thread that links the track to the rest of the album, including “Napkin,” “2 Moons,” “Art & Life,” “Spy,” and “Secret Things”.
