Hiroshi Watanabe, better known as Kaito, closes his Collection chapter with the dreamy, piano driven track Summer Mood and two exclusive pieces that explore ethereal classical and space techno landscapes.
As one of Japan’s most revered electronic musicians, with a career spanning over two decades, Kaito continues to refine his craft, delivering soothing and introspective sonic experiences. Collection, released on September 13th, features re-edited versions of tracks composed between 2020 and 2022. The album delves into themes of resilience during the pandemic, highlighting Kaito’s mastery of deep, contemplative soundscapes that evoke nature’s serenity. These works have found renewed relevance, offering solace to a world still in turmoil.
The EP opener and title track, Summer Mood (iF Edit), with its piano notes seemingly suspended in time, captures the essence of stillness, evoking both nostalgia and tranquility, while setting the reflective tone for the rest of the release. Layered with airy synth waves and driven by delicate piano, Encounter (iF Edit) transports listeners into a more ethereal, spiritual space, inviting them into a lucid dream state filled with hope and harmony.
On the other hand, Paradigm Shift (iF Edit) introduces spacey elements reminiscent of Detroit techno’s golden age. Although it diverges from the album’s overall mood, its layered dystopian synth notes evoke a sense of transformation and exploration, creating both spiritual tension and a longing for physical release.
