Mary Lattimore x Julianna Barwick

Mary Lattimore is a Los Angeles–based harpist and composer, known for experimenting with her Lyon & Healy Concert Grand harp and effects to create a musical world filled with memories and fleeting impressions. Described by Pitchfork as one of today’s leading instrumental storytellers, she has a unique ability to evoke powerful emotions through her music. Lattimore’s impulse to record life as it happens matches her drive to travel and perform, drawing inspiration from motion, which she believes unlocks new moods and melodies. Beyond her solo work, she collaborates widely, writing harp parts and performing with artists such as Meg Baird, Thurston Moore, Sharon Van Etten, Harold Budd, and Kurt Vile, among others. Her music reminds us that nothing in life remains the same, and that through sound, artists can celebrate and mourn the tragedy and beauty of the ephemeral.

Julianna Barwick is a Los Angeles–based composer, vocalist, and producer, celebrated for creating deeply introspective music centered on the human voice. She has released six critically acclaimed albums. In 2013, her third album Nepenthe marked her first collaboration with producer and film composer Alex Somers, while Healing Is a Miracle (2020)—featuring Jónsi, Mary Lattimore, and Nosaj Thing—received Pitchfork’s Best New Music distinction. Barwick has performed with artists such as Yoko Ono, The Flaming Lips, and Philip Glass, and collaborated with NYC dance company BalletCollective. Alongside her career as a recording artist, she is increasingly developing her work as a film composer. Vocalist, producer, and composer focused on ambient music rooted in looped vocal textures. Collaborated with Jónsi, Philip Glass, Yoko Ono, and others. Discography includes: Nepenthe (2013), Healing Is A Miracle (2020).

The Collaboration – Having toured together over the years, Lattimore and Barwick now join forces to co-write and record this full-length album. Their creative synergy brings together harp, voice, and analog synths in a deeply emotional, immersive sound journey.  The album was recorded at the Philharmonie de Paris with co-producer Trevor Spencer (Fleet Foxes, Beach House). This album continues a unique series of collaborations between the label and the Musée de la Musique, featuring historical instruments in contemporary composition. Since 2017, InFiné and the Philharmonie de Paris have co-developed a series of albums designed to highlight the extraordinary instrument collection of the Musée de la Musique. Following the albums InBach by Arandel (2020) and Saturn 63 by Seb Martel (2022), this third release is a meeting of two iconic contemporary ambient voices: Mary Lattimore and Julianna Barwick. The project offers the artists full access to the museum’s playable instruments for recording, sound conservation, and creative reinterpretation.
