Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore’s upcoming album Tragic Magic (out January 16) brings together the duo’s long-time friends and creative partners. Among them is Trevor Spencer → Listen to the album
Trevor Spencer is a producer, mixer, engineer and a musician. He has his own studio “WAY OUT” outside of Seattle. He’s worked on Beach House’s “Once Twice Melody” & “Become” EP, as well as with other notable artists like Valley Maker, Searows, Father John Misty, Pure Bathing Culture, Naked Giants, and Chastity Belt. He’s been part of three Billboard #1’s and two Grammy nominated records.
In Trevor’s words:
“I met Mary through my friends in Beach House a few years ago when she was looking for someone to mix her fantastic record ‘Goodbye Hotel Arkada’. We became fast friends connecting on a number of musical and life things. She sent me an ice box of New York’s Russ & Daughters smoked fish as a thank you for mixing her record and I knew we would be friends forever.”
Having been a fan of Julianna Barwick for some time, it was even more exciting to work on Tragic Magic. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. I mean, recording with two wildly talented and fun women for a couple weeks in Paris, at the Philharmonic’s rare instrument museum?
The days of recording were amazing. The meals and our evening hangs bring back such a fond sense of longing. We did it all. Every single person we encountered treated us with such kindness and grace. We were extremely well taken care of. My first cab driver, every security guard, label person, and especially our couriers at the museum, each of them could be a wonderful story on their own.”
