Fernando Corona is a key figure in the electronic underground, known for his subtle yet impactful contributions. Born in Mexico and now based in Spain, Corona began exploring music in the 1980s. He first gained recognition with the influential Nortec Collective before introducing his Murcof alias in 2002, following his move from Tijuana to the Barcelona area. Life in Europe allowed him to connect with a network of like-minded artists, helping him carve out a strong niche in the scene.

Murcof initially started as a side project, but it quickly gained a dedicated following as Corona released a steady stream of albums. “Murcof was born out of the necessity to do something more private, more personal, more introspective. And then it took off,” Corona reflects. Though his Murcof projects have explored a range of genres—from ambient to industrial to acid house—his discography is consistently marked by a deep sense of thoughtfulness.

Murcof’s new album, Twin Color, delves into a crunchy, motorik sound and is released by the French label InFiné, fitting well within the label’s intellectually-driven catalog. “It’s not a new project because it appears under the Murcof banner,” Corona explains, “but it’s a slight departure from my usual aesthetics.” While his earlier work has often drawn from classical samples and expansive drones, his latest full-length is more experimental, even showing some influences from post-punk.
